Borax is a white sodium borate mineral used in cleaning, ceramics, glass, agriculture, water treatment and metalworking. It helps soften water, support pH control, improve cleaning performance and act as a flux in welding and soldering applications.

Description

Borax is a naturally occurring sodium borate mineral and a sodium salt of boric acid. It is also known as Sodium Borate, Sodium Tetraborate or Disodium Tetraborate. Its chemical formula is Na₂B₄O₇·xH₂O.

This versatile material supports many industrial processes because it dissolves in water and offers useful buffering, cleaning and fluxing properties. As a result, manufacturers use it in cleaning products, ceramics, glass, agriculture, water treatment, welding and general chemical formulations.

In cleaning applications, sodium borate helps soften water and improve detergent performance. It can also support stain removal and improve the effectiveness of laundry and household cleaning products. In addition, formulators use it in selected disinfectant and personal care products where controlled alkalinity is required.

The ceramics and glass industries also rely on this product. It helps produce glass, enamel, pottery glazes and borosilicate glass. Furthermore, it improves the melting behaviour of ceramic and glass mixtures, which helps manufacturers achieve consistent results.

In metalworking, this sodium tetraborate product acts as a flux during welding, soldering, brazing and forging. It helps dissolve metal oxides and supports cleaner bonding between metal surfaces. Therefore, it remains useful in workshops, foundries and industrial production environments.

Agriculture is another important market. Boron is an essential trace element for plant growth, so fertiliser producers use sodium borate as a boron source. However, correct dosage is important because plants only need boron in small amounts.

In water treatment, the product helps manage water hardness and pH balance in selected industrial processes. It can also support pool maintenance and other specialist water applications.

MEPCHEM supplies this product for commercial and industrial customers. It is suitable for companies in cleaning, agriculture, ceramics, glass, welding, water treatment, construction, textile and general manufacturing sectors.
